Happy International Day of Forests!

A forest is a large area dominated by trees.According to the widely used Food and Agriculture Organization definition, forests covered approximately 30 percent of the world’s land area in 2006.

Forests at different latitudes and elevations form distinctly different eco-zones: boreal forests near the poles, tropical forests near the equator and temperate forests at mid-latitudes. Different forests are home to different wild animals, and they live in tight connection with each other, animals using the forest as a shelter and food supplier, and forest is counting on wild animals for spreading the seeds, grow and stay healthy, as long as humans don’t destroy the natural balance between herbivores and carnivores!

Human society and forests influence each other in both positive and negative ways.Forests provide ecosystem services to humans and serve as tourist attractions. Forests can also affect people’s health. Human activities, including harvesting forest resources, can negatively affect forest ecosystems.

Today is a good moment to remind our-selves the beneficial impact of Planet’s forests, and to consider ways to value it at its true capacity! Either a simple walk with family in the forest, or even planting a tree, or supporting one organization that fights deforestation, any of these will help!
